Musical Furniture

Over the past several months my house has been undergoing a re decorating phase. We have been married for 14 years, tastes have changed and my eyes have started growing tired of all the pattern and crazy color in my house. I am ready for clean and neutral( although you won’t think that when I break out my Christmas decoration pictures…there is only so much a girl can do in a day:) So as we were deciding where to put my Christmas tree, I had to find a place to put two pieces of furniture that I had planned to slipcover in dropcloths and later sell. However, I think they have landed a home in my kitchen. Let me remind you that I live in 1100 square feet. There are not many places to go and grab some peace and quiet. Our living room TV is usually on an episode of Sponge Bob or Dora the Explorer, depending on which kid has control of the remote. I wanted to give the eat in area in my kitchen a keeping room type feel where I could sit for a second, away from the kids, and read a magazine or actually have a TV to myself. However, space is really limited. The two pieces that I decided to keep were very small scale. Don’t laugh when you see what I kept…Yeppers…the lovely orange chair that no one wanted to buy. BUT I am going to make it look fabulous! I realized the two pieces have similar curvey legs. I think they will look great together once they are slipped in a canvas. The colors together right now are hideous, I know. But I like how the furniture is arranged. It fits right around our small breakfast table and can be used for eating or conversation.

Now, you are going to have to forgive my photography. Lighting was a challenge and I don’t have my editing software on the new computer yet…But you get the idea. I couldn’t even crop out my solo cup full of Moutain Dew…very professional…

I put these little black chairs around the table a few weeks ago and they are growing on me too. I was just looking for seating until I found something else but I think they work. They were also the chairs my mom ate on growing up which makes them kinda special.

We had a great time decorating the tree today. We finished up tonight, drank some hot chocolate and watched “Deck the Halls.” My kids are already bouncing off the walls! My 3 year old is going to be so much fun this year. She asked me tonight “what dat man gonna put in my lockin” and she hoped it was an elf…Uh Oh… I’m in trouble!

  5. I actually think the furniture works and looks great AS IS. The orange chair is an unexpected pop of color – the legs match the color of the table chairs – the legs on the sofa match the top of the table – and the light yellow and orange actually I think look great! I suggest making some art / something like that to hang on the wall that ties it all together – would look wonderful!

  7. Well we have another thing in common …decorating 1100 square feet! I really love the lines on your furniture and the way you have them arranged looks fantastic. I was thinking of moving a sette that I bought at goodwill over to my dining area and putting two french style chairs in the living room.I think I'll slipcover in a combination of canvas and burlap. What is it about burlap that has me so smitten? I think I'd side my house in it if I could(joking).

  13. Kelli,

Love the kitchen arrangement and having a small house myself I understand the need to have a little "me" space.
