Faux Zinc Finish { zinc top coffee table}

One of the biggest pieces of furniture that I felt that we were missing in our family room was a coffee table. I recently bought one from a friend for 30.00. I loved the size, I loved the shape and it resembled a coffee table that I found online at Pottery Barn with a light bottom, zinc top and chunky legs, seen below.

The table I found for 30.00 needed a little love and I was certainly willing to give it some. I loved the zinc on the Pottery Barn table, but it was a little “new” looking and I wanted to achieve the look of the inside of a vintage zinc sap bucket. I took a picture of the inside of a bucket I owned and began to experiment with mediums that I had on hand to come up with a faux zinc finish for my table. It was a several day process but I think the result was well worth the effort.

Here is what my table looked like before………….

And here is what it looks like finished in my family room with a few close ups.

So here is the deal. I wasn’t sure how well this would be received but I did take notes and pictures to make a video tutorial for this finish if you are interested. Unlike the video I promised earlier with the crackle tex, this finish is solely mine and belongs to me, Restore Interiors LLC. So I can make a video if I want to;) I am still waiting on to go ahead for the french dresser tutorial but when I know something I will let you know. So what do you think? Is this something you would want to know how to do? Y’all let me know in the comments. Happy Thursday!

  24. This is so cool! I once did a faux copper top table for a client. Unfortunately I probably won’t ever be able to do it again since I kinda did it on the fly 😉 I had no idea it was going to turn out so beautifully! It was a “let’s try this and….” sort of thing. But it truly looks like burnished copper. She loved it and so did I 🙂

  25. Jeanette Shaw says:

Love the video and this is now on my To Do list, (which is quite long). We need a coffee table as well and I love the look. The best part is taking a Pottery Barn idea and turning it into an affordable and fun project that looks great.

  26. Yes I would love to see a video! Thanks for sharing.

  27. Joan Delano says:

I love what you did with your table! I would like to know how to do this. Please e-mail the video or directions to me. Thanks!

  28. Sheryl Donohue says:

can you tell me does it have a sheen to it ? so that it gives the impression of metal. I cannot tell from the photo’s if the metalic paint in your recipe gives it that nice hint of metal. I am hoping so. your’s is the best one yet for the faux zinc look! Thanks!

  29. Michelle says:

    Love it !!!

  30. would love to see the video…coffee table waiting:)

  31. First attempt of this project on my own coffee table was a total flop. Not knowing measurements of the products in the 3rd step was a huge waste of paint and wax. Not sure how to get this coat to separate like it does in the video, super frustrating.

  32. Rita Connors says:

    Yes, where is the video

  33. Yes!!!!! Please share.

  34. Heidi Disdier says:

Yes!!! Love your table. Please share your technique:)
