Our Christmas House Guests

We seem to have these little creatures running around our house at night. And no, they are not mice, thank God, they are ELVES! My kids wrote Santa a letter stating, “They would like to have an elf visit them for the Holidays.” I had no idea Santa lent out his elves during such a busy time of year but somehow, one morning my kids woke up and these little people were hanging out of my kids stockings with their feet up in the air! Apparently, they like to sleep during the day and are wide awake most of the night getting into all kinds of trouble. One letter that my children found said that they had been riding our 3 pound Chihuahua all night like a horse! Imagine that!

We have two living with us right now. One named Joy and one named Belle. Joy and Belle are an interesting duo. On one hand, they are teaching my kids valuable lessons about the true meaning of Christmas, and about how important it is to let Jesus’ light shine through them, by putting others before themselves. The flip side is that they are making a terrible mess!! One morning, we found them upside down in a bag of chocolate chips. Chocolate everywhere! They leave cracker crumbs on the table and sneak candy out of our candy bowl. A mess I tell ya! But my kids are having a blast!!

Although I have been thoroughly focused on Christmas, this time of year makes me want to start cleaning out. I imagine it’s because after Christmas, I feel like there is no room for anything new in all of my 1100 square feet. Yesterday, I manged to clean out all the drawers in my island and clean out one of my cabinets. Here is a picture of what it looked like before.

After a little rearranging I decided to dedicate this to my growing ironstone and transferware collection. I think completing the craft room closet clean out lit a fire underneath me! What’s next? I have no idea, but I am sure you will find out soon!

Don’t y’all just love this platter? My mom found this at an estate when she was visiting my Aunt and cousins in New Mexico. My white ironstone pitcher was only 2 bucks at a yard sale. That was one of my very favorite finds!

  5. I miss those days soooo much. My 10 year old daughter still wants to believe, but when you have 12 and 14 year old brothers it is hard. BUT,up until the day I die, I will never come out and say what the kids want me to admit to. I drive them crazy because I still say "from santa", blah blah blah….

    Your elves are to cute!

    Take care,
    Lisa
