WAX ON WAX OFF…A FIRST RESTORE VIDEO

I put my dad and my husband to work over the past two days. Mom and I bought a dining room suite we picked up last night. It was her find. We are still trying to decide how we are going to split it up. I’m not sure if it will get painted or not…..that’s still in the air.  But oh….I hope she lets me paint the china cabinet! It’s beautiful!! Today, they went with me to deliver this gorgeous buffet to Urban that I finished up and we also picked up the dresser that I will be turning into a media cabinet over the next several days. Stay tuned, I have some great makeovers around the corner.

While I was finishing this piece up, I decided to make my first video to show you the waxing technique I was telling you about the other day. This is something that I learned in my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class. If you have not attended one, you should. It is worth every penny. I promise.

My video is totally amateur and my tiny one decided to make an appearance in the middle of it and at the end. I hope this helps some of you. If you have any questions about this just email me. I am not being compensated by Annie Sloan to promote their products. I just use them because I love them and these are just my own opinions.

I have GOT to figure out how to edit the first part. Look at my face!!
What an expression……

I have a thing for old brown bottles. I found these at Urban the other day. Aren’t they great?

  11. Great video tips Kelli! How long did you wait between the clear wax coat and the dark wax application? Did you buff the clear wax first?

You don't know how much I appreciate your video. I used the dark wax and was unhappy with the lack of control over it. Now I know how to take off the excess. Thanks so very much for thinking of us out there just trying out Annie Sloan chalk paint and waxes.

  17. I haven't tried theses waxes yet but that tip of waxing off is invaluable. Your daughter is too cute peeking in.

Sharon, I did not buff it in between and I waxed on the dark about 10 minutes after I put on the clear. Great question. I will probably re address this when I experiment a little more. Thanks!

  23. Kelli,

Just finished watching your vlog this afternoon as I had finished an antique desk with paris grey and a clear coat, and was scared to do the dark wax. When i searched on it – i found you – thanks for the vlog – my piece turned out great and I appreciate the advice!

  27. Kelli! I just took a break from preparing a Sunday School lesson…..this time the kids, not the adults, but Teenagers! It is about the first part of Acts. Anyhow…..important stuff, but maybe not so interesting to 14 year olds. I clicked over to your blog and saw this video! I LOVE it! That was a great idea about using the clear wax to get off the dark wax. That is something I would have never thought of, and there were so many times I could have used that tip. You look adorable, and so does your daughter. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the helpful lesson, Kelli! You've given us the creative spark and encouragement to give it a try. Just bought my waxes this afternoon — and now to select that first piece of furniture! (PS: Your daughter's arrival in the video is sweet and very real in everyday life. :)

  34. I recently discovered Annie Sloan’s incredible paints and have had trouble working with the dark wax— this was very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to share.

Hi Kelli, I recently bought a big chest of drawers that had been painted bright turquoise, beachy but not our beach colors….. we needed the storage and it’s a lovely piece. I saw this video back when you first posted it and enjoyed watching it but had not had occasion to use the technique until now. Painted the body old white and the drawers Paris gray but wasn’t sure about the dark wax method, luckily I’d bookmarked the video and got a refresher course! Thanks again for a very helpful tool. I’ve already waxed and buffed and will try the dark wax next, fingers crossed the time delay won’t be an issue but I’ll try a not so obvious location first…..I’ll let you know if it’s a problem in case someone else wonders. Thanks again!
