I have a serious thing for lamps. I love how they make a room feel cozy and inviting. I think my favorite thing about a lamp makeover is that they are quick and easy and give a an instant gratification. Even re wiring a lamp is easy. Don’t pass up a good lamp body if it just needs a new wire. I have a tutorial on that here.
Yesterday, I painted this Urn Lamp that I scored for 10.00 a t a sale on Saturday. It was Burgundy and an ugly silver color with a VERY large pleated paper shade. ICK. The detail on this, however, struck me as being very European. The carving reminds me of what you see on many french chairs. I don’t normally pay this much for a lamp, but the detail was just marvelous….I couldn’t pass up the potential.
I combined some country gray with a little left over sample of a new gray color that ASCP is coming out with in the next few months. I got a sample from Stacey. You guys are going to LOVE the new colors. I will be sure to let you know when they hit the shelves.
After I painted two coats of ASCP, I waxed on a coat of ASCP clear wax and then a coat of ASCP dark wax. I used a clean t shirt with clear wax on it to wipe off the excess dark wax.
The shade I found at Hobby Lobby. How cute are the pleats and the little dainty buttons?
I loved this lamp so much, it’s staying home with me. It is extremely heavy metal and a great shape and color. Total makeover cost was 30.00 and it looks like 200 bucks.
Now go find you a great lamp to makeover! You will never look at an ugly lamp the same way again.
